The mission of the Timothy Project Youth Mentoring Youth program is to enhance the lives of youth and to empower them to do the same for others. Both peer mentoring and leadership training form the cornerstone of our program.
Description
Powerhouse of Love Ministries (PLM), a church without walls, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded August 18, 1999 by Pastors Carolyn and Rodney Robinson. It was developed to offer an alternative worship environment for the people of the Houston and the surrounding areas, whereby men, women, boys and girls would feel comfortable and be open to receive the gospel. On May 12, 2000 Powerhouse of Love Ministries entered into a covenant relationship with Christian Tabernacle under the leadership of Pastor Richard Heard. Powerhouse of Love Ministries and Christian Tabernacle realized that the Timothy Project: Youth Mentoring Youth would provide nurturing and guidance to youths who are "at-risk" and could serve to mold them into leaders who would in turn do the same for other youths with such needs. Out of this relationship the Timothy Project: Youth Mentoring Youth (TP: YMY) program was born. This vision for this project was to provide a mentoring program for youth 5-21 years old.
The Timothy Project provides mentoring skills that meet the needs of the whole person. Adult group leaders train and mentor youth to become peer mentors. Youth receive training in the areas of communication, healthy relationships, self-esteem, character development, anger management, managing feelings, etc. Upon completion of training, youth are able to become role models to the new participants.
