Mission Statement

Hands to Heart Center - Yoga for the People is a non-profit program that provides yoga classes in schools, hospitals, detention units and residential programs and for low-income residents in Boston's communities of color. HTHC recruits trained yoga teachers as volunteers so that we can offer free and low-cast classes. HTHC was founded by Susan Lovett, a licensed clinical social worker, a licensed K-8 teacher as well and registered 200-hour yoga teacher.

Description

Hands to Heart Center is an entirely volunteer-run organization whose yoga teachers are currently leading weekly yoga and mindfulness classes at the LARC program at the Shattuck Hospital, the New Chardon Temp Home, the AIDS Action Committee, the Frederick Pilot Middle School and two residential treatment programs run by the Boston Public Health Commission. We've received overwhelmingly positive feedback from 100% of the 32 organizations with which we've collaborated since the program began.

Evidence shows that a regular yoga practice can alleviate anxiety, depression, stress and PTSD and that it can be a significant coping skill that builds capacity and increases resilience. Our volunteers typically have more availability during weeknights and weekend days but we are also able to provide weekday classes.
