Mission Statement

Servant Year Mission: Servant Year enables recent college graduates who desire to serve marginalized populations in the Philadelphia area for a period of one year to do so by providing for their needs while in service to others.

Description

Servant Year is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania and the Synod of Southeastern Pennsylvania of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The purpose of Servant Year is to provide young women and men who have completed at least one year of college with a chance to explore social outreach programs and social service. Servant Year members live in an intentional Christian community. Spiritual formation, social service, and compassion are essential parts of the Servant Year experience. The program provides housing, a $500 / month stipend, health insurance, transportation assistance, community, frequent guest speakers and four retreats per year. Servant Year members work 36 hrs per week for one year (with vacation, sick leave, etc) within a partnering social service agency where they assist populations in need. These populations include homeless children and youth, homeless adults, at-risk children and youth, as well as other peoples in need of assistance.
