Mission Statement

Our primary purpose is to offer our youth and young adults with positive alternatives to negative gang/crew participation. We provide our youth and their families with recreational activities and a safe haven; to promote peace, good health and a non-violent community. We also provide positive activities, which include character-building skills promoted through tutoring, leadership training, mentoring, social/self awareness, and life-skills training. We will encourage open forums of discussions to resolve community differences among youth and teach ways of resolving problems before they escalate into community disruptions.

Description

Uniting Our Youth, Inc. was founded by Clarence Miles, Jr. in June 2008. Mr. Miles' mission along with his dedicated support team is to provide assistance to our communities and support to families as they work together to reduce the harmful effects of gang/crew violence in our neighborhoods and on our youth. Our goal is to counterbalance negative behaviors and outcomes by promoting positive alternatives for our at-risk youth.

Across our Nation, gang/crew violence has rendered our communities helpless and hopeless. The elimination of both negative forces is crucial to the future of our communities. On the belief that every child in our community has something to offer our society, Mr. Miles identified a "gap" in our community resources to achieve that end. It appeared to Mr. Miles that we are failing our youth. As parents and community leaders, we must do our part to encourage our youth "to be all they can be" and "to be the best they can be".

It is for these purposes that Mr. Miles along with his dedicated support team began UOY...to provide assistance to our communities in supporting families as they work to provide the best for their children and to help reduce the harmful effects of gang/crew violence on our youth and young adults.
