Mission Statement

Our Mission is to provide an equestrian therapeutic environment for physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged Individuals; furthermore, to allow them to explore and achieve basic life functions to the best of their ability; and, to create a sense of freedom, independence and accomplishment which cannot be achieved or duplicated in the traditional therapeutic setting. We hope this helps us as volunteers and promotes others to grow in dedication and responsibility through providing equine activities and programs for individuals with special needs.

We are a PATH International Premier Accredited Center. We have been in operation under the state of Ohio as a charitable organization since 2008. Our students are from the ages of 4 & up who have physical, mental, environmental or cognitive disabilities. We have therapeutic mounted and dismounted programs. Our programs consist of therapeutic riding for the physically and mentally handicapped individuals, veterans' rehabilitation therapeutic riding and unmounted program, an at-risk teens program mounted and unmounted, and Horse 101 riding for able body individuals.

We are always looking for good volunteers who want to work with our students and/or horses.

We have other volunteer positions if you do not intend to work with the horses or students. Please call to set up an interview with us at 740-995-9395 or 740-221-6292

We will sign off for volunteer hours when requested. Our Season Runs March - November. We Serve 6 counties in Ohio. Muskingum, Guernsey, Coshocton, Morgan, Licking & Belmont. Please give us a try for 2023!

Breaking Free Therapeutic Riding Center is a wonderful program dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. The program is small but has a big impact. The organization's leaders are all committed to making the program one of the best with limited resources. It is so wonderful to work with a special needs individual and watch them progress each and every session. It tugs at your heart to see limited mobility children learn to hold the reins, non verbal children learn to kiss to walk on, and timid children grow confidence as they learn to give commands and the horse responds! The joy on the children's faces as they greet their horses at the beginning of each class is genuine and makes all the hard work worth it. Thanks Breaking Free!!

This is a great program run by lots of very caring people, The kids they help have so much fun and really make physical and mental progress. The founders do this as a total non profit and even provide the scholarships for many students. The volunteer opportunities are very rewarding.
