To develop opportunities that inspire the global community of learners to utilize diverse approaches in applying 21st-century skills and creativity. The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus, and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem-solving process. Teams may showcase their solutions at a tournament.
Washington Imagination Network is the statewide affiliation for the worldwide Destination Imagination program. The programs provide many STEM-based challenges for pre-school through high school level teams to learn teamwork, creative problem-solving, independent thinking, and more all in the context of creating a solution to their chosen challenge. Most teams elect to compete in regional tournaments in the hope of advancing to the state and then global championship tournaments. Washington State historically does well at the global tournament - the largest gathering of its type in the world.
Nearly 2,000 students in 350 teams statewide begin work in late September to complete their solution for the regional tournaments taking place in late February to mid-March. The state tournament takes place in early to mid-April. The global championship takes place the end of May in Knoxville, TN.
