Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Founded in 1982, DART is a network of local, nonprofit coalitions that have come together to win long-term solutions to issues of poverty, inequality, and the absence of economic and educational opportunities. DART's network currently consists of 20 affiliated organizations spread throughout Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, Indiana, and Kentucky, each with their own leaders, staff, funding base, and accomplishments toward justice at the local level. DART has fought and won across the country on a broad set of issues like joblessness, access to health care, improved public education, quality affordable housing, and dozens of others.
In 2000, the DART Center created the Organizers Institute with the goal of identifying and training a new generation of community organizers. This training program includes an 8-month national, recruitment search for highly committed and resourceful community organizer trainees, an intensive 7-day classroom and 15-week infield orientation training, followed by a year long career development period at a local, community organization involving regular training, mentoring, and standards for success. Over the last six years, the DART Organizers Institute has produced over 105 graduates, who have been trained to empower and organize low-moderate income people, and are now leading community change in over twenty cities. We are broadening the capacity of the training program by seeking AmeriCorps*Vista volunteers who will enable a greater reach in terms of recruitment, while also gaining insight and skills into the field of grassroots, community organization.
