Mission Statement

Washington Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of college and university presidents who have united to further the civic purposes of higher education by creating academic and co-curricular service opportunities for students to develop the skills and habits of citizenship, encouraging the engagement of faculty in community-based scholarship that addresses societal concerns, and fostering the development of collaborative partnerships among campuses, and with communities.

Description

Washington Campus Compact, in partnership with over 35 higher education institutions, mobilize college service-learners and volunteers to serve poverty-affected students and community members, develop and sustain campus/community partnerships to serve poverty-affected students and community members, and develop college service-learning courses focused on poverty issues.

Mobilizing college students to mentor disadvantaged students and serve in community-based organizations (CBOs) serving poverty-affected community members will help keep at-risk (of poverty) K-12 students engaged in their education and provide CBOs with valuable human resources and future civically minded community members.
