Mission Statement

OCALS Learning Services believes that literacy skills are critical to personal freedom and becoming a productive member of society. The mission of OCALS Learning Services is to promote increased literacy for adult learners and families in Orleans County through the effective use of volunteers, and collaboration with individuals, organizations or employers desiring to foster increased literacy. As such, OCALS Learning Services is committed to: enabling adults and families in need of basic literacy skills to achieve their potential through one-to-one or small group instruction, training, supervising, and supporting OCALS volunteer tutors and students, and strengthening and improving the organization's capacity to provide literacy instruction and services to the community.

Description

OCALS Learning Services is a not-for-profit organization which exists to improve the reading, writing, math and communication skills of adults in Orleans County, and to improve/teach conversational English speaking skills to those who are limited English proficient. The purpose of this organization is to promote and foster literacy in Orleans County and contiguous areas, and to encourage and aid individuals, groups or organizations desiring to increase their literacy skills through FREE and CONFIDENTIAL services. Our literacy services include: Family Literacy, Basic Literacy, Workplace Literacy, TASC/GED, and ESL (English as a Second Language).
