Mission Statement

The mission of After-School All-Stars is to provide comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life. ASAS’ vision is for our All-Stars to be safe and healthy, to graduate high school and go to college, to find careers they love and then give back to their communities.

Description

ASAS is a national organization founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger and originally called Inner City Games - offering fitness clinics for low-income youth. Since it began in 1993, ASAS has grown to 17 cities and offers free, comprehensive, daily afterschool programming to over 72,000 students through four national initiatives We Are Ready (high school graduation), Sports as a Hook (healthy living), Career Exploration Opportunities (workforce readiness), Life Service Action (service learning).

ASAS-Chicago partners with Chicago Public Schools to provide innovative and impactful programs that serve over 30,000 students in grades K-8 at 150 schools. Working directly in school sites, ASAS-Chicago provides academic support, enrichment activities, health and fitness opportunities as well as support to school to respond to crises around high school graduation, obesity, civic engagement and work force readiness. In 2015, ASAS-Chicago launched a model school site at Dewey School of Excellence in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago and will be serving 150 students with 3 hours of afterschool program every school day and Saturday mornings.
