Mission Statement
Our mission is to make renewable energy technology and job training accessible to underserved communities. People. Planet. Employment.
Description
Through our Solar Affordable Housing and Green Jobs Partnership Program, GRID Alternatives (GRID) leads teams of community volunteers and job trainees to install solar electric systems that benefit low-income qualified families. Every project generates "triple bottom line" results: measurable, long-term financial benefits for low-income families and affordable housing developers struggling to keep up with monthly expenses; real-world, hands-on experience for local workers in the growing field of solar installation; and environmental benefits by eliminating greenhouse gas emissions.
Since launching in the California Bay Area in 2004, GRID has opened 7 offices throughout California and expanded nationally over the past 2 years by opening affiliates serving Colorado, New York, and the Mid-Atlantic, and a National Tribal Program.
To date GRID has saved 5,300 families over $130,000,000 on their electricity bills, prevented 406,000 tons of greenhouse gasses from entering the atmosphere, and trained over 20,000 volunteers.
