Mission Statement

Firebird Health International provides humanitarian support to poor and underserved people and communities in the United States and abroad. Through both direct services and the development of self-help programs, we provide people with opportunities to transform and rebuild their lives. Meeting and working with people where they are helps us tailor programs that incorporate local cultures and therefore, are more likely to lead to sustained development. While our primary focus is on medical care and the creation of self-sufficient communities, we respond to humanitarian crises of all kinds, when and wherever there is a need for our expertise and services.

Description

Firebird Health International’s first projects are in Mongolia, working with people living in extreme poverty: in Rashant Ger neighborhood, Erdenet; and in Öndörsant, a rural community of herders that traces its history back some 62 000 years. We work toward creating self-sufficient communities.

Firebird Health's Reentry Program serves formerly incarcerated women and men, and their families and friends in Lower Fairfield County, Conn. We work toward welcoming people back into our communities, and giving them, "a second chance to start living life normally again"1.

Firebird provides emergency and long-term support services such as: crisis intervention counseling, mental health counseling, life-skills development, anger management, substance abuse counseling, job readiness, and work-placement, and referrals to community services, amongst other programs. We also provide support services for families and friends. Some services are provided in individual meetings; others in group settings. Our long-term goal is to work with people in rebuilding their lives, and reuniting people with family and friends, where appropriate.
