The American Museum of Peace celebrates the quest for peace in America. AMP documents the ideals, motives and actions of America’s private citizens, civic and religious leaders, even those with military experience who have worked for peace - from the First Americans, colonists and Founders to the present day. By exploring the values and vision of Americans who have worked for peace in the past, the American Museum of Peace hopes to inspire visitors to build a more perfect union and a more peaceful world today.
A not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization incorporated and located in Washington, DC, the American Museum of Peace offers dynamic and inspirational experiences for all ages to heighten awareness of the roles Americans have played in pursuit of peace and to inspire citizens of today to commit to those qualities and principles that give peace. The American Museum of Peace has four primary purposes:
- Establish a museum in the nation’s capital on the history of America’s continuous quest for peace, extolling the principles that foster peace and exploring ways of living in peace today;
- Create an archival collection that highlights inspirational parts of America's peace history;
- Provide an educational center for personal values clarification and peace education.
- Establish a venue for multi-level, peace-focused workshops and dialogues.
