Mission Statement

Carilion Hospice services are a not-for-profit hospice programs that exist within the division of the Community-based Service Line of Cariliion Health System. The hospice maintains the philopophy that comprehensive quality care will be rendered to patients regardless of age, disease, handicap, race, sex, religion, social or economic status, or ability to pay, within the limits of the hospice program. Hospice patients are those persons referred by the attending physician for terminal, palliative care during the last six months of life. The hospice program is an organized approach to care during the last phase of life which focuses on the whole family as the unit of care. Emphasis is placed on symptom control and the purpose of hospice is to enhance the quality of life for the person who is dying and to assist the family in coping.
