Mission Statement

The mission of Jubilee is to be a catalyst for community renewal and enrichment to the surrounding Dallas/Fair Park neighborhood, with special emphasis on the education of children and adults, with a focus on comprehensive community revitalization.

Description

For 15 years, Jubilee has provided critical assistance to families in southeast Dallas. Annually, 10 staff members and more than 800 volunteers provide services and education to over 1,100 individuals in Jubilee Park and the surrounding area. Jubilee operates a multi-facility campus which includes the Walt Humann - T. Boone Pickens Community Center, a resource center, a Head Start facility, an Early Head Start facility, a senior housing complex and a 3 acre park.

The Jubilee Park neighborhood encompasses a 62-block area bounded by I-30, Fair Park and East Grand Avenue. The majority of families are working poor, with 40% living below the federal poverty level. Jubilee provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services to ensure that all residents are able to access programs. Jubilee takes a comprehensive approach to community revitalization focusing on five key areas: education, public health, public safety, affordable housing and economic development.

Katelynn and the team were incredibly welcoming to me as a first time volunteer. I spent the afternoon as a personal shopper in their pantry. This is a great place for a "drop in" volunteer opportunity, i.e. if you're not sure you can make a regular commitment. It would just as well to come often, but I was travelling in the area. A few things that stood out: 1. Katelynn did a wonderful job giving me the context for the community and the program. She really gave me a sense of the history of the place and its resilient people, not just the program. 2. The program was well-organized. I checked in easily, was given a brief orientation to our work and then had a chance to dig in. 3. The program was action-packed; I felt I was useful. There was always something to do. 4. The program enabled contact with the community. I appreciate getting to relate to the folks in the community. Jubilee made that respectful, simple and productive.

The people there were extremly nice and helpful, and the location was clean and organized. I support their cause, and since they were the first organization I ever volunteered at, they made me excited to volunteer in the future. I would definetly volunteer there again!

My after school club, the Geo Club, has volunteered twice at Jubilee Park. The staff is super friendly and easy to work with. The center is clean, well-organized, and a fun environment. The kids that are enrolled in the program are very sweet and well-mannered.
