Our clients are referred to our organisaton by their GP or Psychologist and are on a mental health plan. Our network of qualified volunteers introduce alternative therapies to our clients, to encourage daily use of techniques that help promote positive mindfulness, exercise and nutrition and ways to relax. Currently, our clients visit the volunteers place of business, which include: meditation, massage, yoga, reiki, hypnotherapy, chiropractic, naturopathy, fitness clubs, Lucia Light, life coaching, plus many others.
Our aim is for our clients to adapt these techniques into their daily routines, in order to reduce the episodes of stress and anxiety. This in turn, will reduce episodes of depression, substance abuse, hospital admissions, family breakdown and all the other ripple effects within the home and society.
We need volunteers not just qualified in these various modalities, but also to help with administration, such as event management; grant application writing; appointment co-ordinator; driver; etc.
We have been active for over one year; have 20 members, 17 volunteers and helped 17 clients.
Our longterm vision is to establish a half-way house between a mental health ward or rehab, and home. This will provide a 6 week transitional period to learn alternative methods for bringing self-confidence, peace and calm back into their daily lives.
