Gentiva Hospice - Southaven is seeking dedicated and caring volunteers to provide vital direct care support to our patients and their loved ones in the N. Mississippi area. Your presence and assistance can bring comfort, reduce feelings of isolation, and offer much-needed respite during a challenging time. As a Direct Care Volunteer, you might: Offer the gift of companionship: Connect with patients through friendly phone calls, providing a listening ear and a warm presence. Visit patients in their homes or care facilities: Share meaningful conversations, read aloud, or simply offer a comforting presence (following all safety protocols). Provide respite for caregivers: Offer a break for family members or primary caregivers, allowing them time to rest and recharge, knowing their loved one is in caring hands. Run essential errands: Assist patients or caregivers with tasks such as grocery shopping or other necessary outings. Offer supportive check-in calls: Reach out to patients and families to see how they are doing. Assisting with Facility Events: Participating in activities and events at our partner care facilities, bringing joy and engagement to residents. As a pet therapy volunteer, you and your certified dog will have the opportunity to provide moments of joy and connection to individuals receiving hospice care. Here's what we're looking for: A loving and gentle dog that is currently certified/registered by an AKC-recognized therapy dog organization. Proof of up-to-date vaccinations for your canine companion. A friendly and empathetic human handler (that's you!). A commitment to bringing comfort and positive interactions to our patients.
