Mission Statement
The mission of the annual 6th Street fair, "Positively 6th Street," is to connect local residents, some of whom are homeless or formerly homeless, with tools for personal change,improve the perceived image and reality of the neighborhood through positive celebration,increase community cohesion,demonstrate that 6th Street is home to a viable community,provide positive role models and sources of entertainment for inner-city youth,and support the local economy through apolitical means.
Description
By combining the efforts of local and non-local talents, services and gifts, San Francisco's "Positively 6th Street" fair provides the South of Market neighborhood with a day of music, entertainment and self-empowerment for all who attend. Residents and businesses join together with 6th Street Fair Committee members, working year round to raise funds, organize volunteers, recruit service providers and so much more to create an annual, multi-purpose street fair in the 6th Street district.
The Positively 6th Street Fair aspires to unite local residents and businesses in a spirit of community, bring attention to the condition of the neighborhood, connect those most in need to community services, and of course showcase the unique spirit that is 6th Street!
The organizers of the Positively 6th Street Fair welcome you to your neighborhood celebration. You, you and YOU -- people of every age, gender and walk of life. From the smallest baby at South of Market Child Care Center to the respected elderly of our community.
From the residents of the neighborhood lofts and condos and people living in single resident occupancy rooms that line Sixth Street to the people without rooms, who live tucked into streets and sidewalks. Come enjoy a safe place to rest and to learn about your neighbors.
