The mission of the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. is to conduct, administer, or coordinate community programs to combat poverty in Santa Cruz County.

Description

The Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. operates seven programs that assist the low-income residents of Santa Cruz County. The Shelter Project provides the following services: emergency rent assistant to avoid eviction, motel vouchers for homeless people, and operation of a shelter hotline, the Women Ventures Project provides training and job development skills for women wishing to enter non-traditional careers, the Davenport Resource Service Center provides Davenport/North Coast residents with food distributions, translation services, information and referral, and services to seniors, teens, and youth, the Santa Cruz County Immigration Project provides immigration legal services, the CalWORKs Emergency Payments Program provides emergency payments for services that enable CalWORKs participants to retain their employment or continue their education, the Community Restoration Project operates weekend work crews for youth and adults as an alternative to incarceration, offers graduates of its programs a paid mentoring/employment option, and operates an on-the-job training program for low-income adults performing environmental restoration projects and Gemma provides re-entry services including case management, therapy, education, job readiness and transitional housing for women reintegrating into the community after a period of incarceration.
