Mission Statement

Saint John Church-Baptist is a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, called to be disciples, committed to: (1) worshiping God, (2) witnessing to our faith, (3) studying and teaching the Word of God and, (4) serving our church and community. Our mission is to encourage persons to come to know Christ as Savior and Lord, nurture them in the faith, and lead them to participate in the ministry of Christ through our church.

Description

Saint John Church-Baptist was formed in April 1904. It is located on Chicago's South Side in the Bronzeville Community. The church is affectionately referred to as, "the friendly church by the library," because its immediate neighbor to the north is the Hall Branch Library. On April 12, 2015, the Reverend Dr. James E. Dunn was installed as pastor of Saint John Church-Baptist. Pastor Dunn is a visionary who is committed to following God’s call. He embraces all--the believer and the unbeliever--and leads with love, according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our community outreach includes providing free Meals on Monday, once a month; providing educational supplies to area schools, supporting area youth shelter organizations, and in-person and virtual tutoring for students in all grade levels.
