Tasks for Transit seeks to encourage civic pride in Worcester by linking volunteer efforts to free day passes give to those who could benefit from them.
Tasks for Transit (TFT) is a highly innovative, charitable non-profit organization, that records the volunteer hours worked for various Worcester area charities and converts them into Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) day passes that TFT then gives, in sets, to selected dispensing organizations. Each dispensing organization in turn gives individual day passes free to persons they know need them. This simple plan reinforces volunteerism in the greater Worcester area, encourages community engagement and fosters civic pride, all the while providing the WRTA a way to indirectly help the needy and increase its ridership.
Tasks for Transit also provides each participating non-profit organization with monthly reports of its volunteers hours, and total hours. These reports are evidence of each non-profit's community acceptance, which can be used in grant proposals and reporting in general fundraising.Registered volunteers who contribute a minimum number of hours per month become eligible for TFT's Random Acts of Gratitude. These are gifts, which are donated by Worcester area organizations, are randomly awarded to individual volunteers. Volunteers are also given the opportunity to participate in TFT's time banking system using hours provided by TFT to secure services of other participants, e.g., child care. This is a highly innovative time banking
