Mission Statement
About Trails and Rails The National Park Service and Amtrak have partnered together since 2000 to provide onboard education programs to Amtrak passenger through its "Trails & Rails" program. Today, there are over 25 programs across the country. The National Park Service is now seeking qualified volunteers to serve as onboard Guides for a new program that will be sponsored by the National Parks of New York Harbor with a weekly program running between New York Penn Station and Washington, DC. Volunteers selected for the program will be required to attend a mandatory eight hour training class on either December 4th or December 5th . The selected Guides will also be required to make two supervised trainings runs onboard Amtrak and successfully complete the training. Volunteer guides will need to commit at a minimum to one trip every two months. All Trails & Rails trips are same day trips between New York Penn Station and Washington DC’s Union Station.
