VITAS Healthcare is looking for kind and caring people to help terminally ill patients and their families- just by being there. Many of our patients live at home with family members or friends who rarely get the opportunity to leave the house since they are devoted to caring for their loved ones. Relief care (sitting with a patient while the caregiver takes a break) is one of our biggest volunteer needs. For caregivers, getting the opportunity to run an errand, go to the movies or a doctor’s appointment can renew their energy. This better equips them for the responsibilities of caregiving. We are currently looking for a Caregiver Relief volunteer to help with visiting a home patient residing in St.Louis, MO 63134. Caregiver relief volunteers provide non-medical services for home patients while family members take a break. We are especially looking for volunteers who would be available during daytime, weekday hours but weekends and/or evenings are also helpful. VITAS Healthcare provides comprehensive training and orientation for hospice volunteering. Days and times for volunteering are flexible according to your availability. VITAS Healthcare is looking for a Bereavement Caller volunteer to check in on bereaved family members after a hospice patient's death. These phone calls go a long way in making a difference in the lives of those coping with grief. This volunteer role consists of contacting bereaved caregivers and family members once a week from a secure, encrypted phone list provided by VITAS staff. VITAS provides a Zoom training with detailed instructions for making the Bereavement calls and staff provide ongoing guidance and supervision. If you enjoy talking on the phone, helping others and would like to make a difference directly from your own home in the lives of bereaved families, being a Bereavement Caller Volunteer is right for you. The times for making these calls is flexible and completely up to you. Anytime you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated. Please note that this volunteer opportunity is for Missouri and Illinois applicants only. If you would prefer to make calls directly from our office instead of at home, this is also an option. Every VITAS volunteer receives training in hospice philosophy, how to support patients & families, health/safety precautions and more. As a Bereavement Caller Volunteer, you are able to use your compassion, listening skills to give back to hospice families in the community.
