Mission Statement
The RCC Community Garden intends to make healthy, sustainable food available to our community through education and practice. We strive to develop small footprint garden plots by utilizing local materials and considering the local climate and soil conditions. We will enable the education of RCC students by providing outdoor laboratory space. We support students and community members interested in sustainable gardening methods and ultimately we hope to contribute to an effective and accessible local food system.
Description
About:The RCC community garden is staffed by volunteers who prepare, plant, and care for the garden. Volunteers are not expected to arrive with garden expertise. The students, staff, and faculty who already volunteer in the garden will train you to improve your gardening know-how. All volunteers get the chance to improve their gardening skills, but those who volunteer at least eight hours per month (two hours per week) also get a share of the crop!
When can I volunteer?: Fall volunteer days are as follows:
Tuesdays 7-9am
Thursdays 5:30-7:30pm
Sundays 7-9am
You can either contact the garden manager, Dr. Tonya Huff, or just show up to a work day.
Where is the garden located? Next to the Math and Science Building on the RCC campus. Look for the white gazebo!
For More Information: If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact the Garden Manager, Dr. Tonya Huff ( Tonya.Huff@rcc.edu )
