Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The motivation of the organization is the Love of God and a practical concern for the needs of humanity. This is expressed by a spiritual ministry, the purposes of which are to teach the Gospel, disseminate Christian truths, supply basic human necessities, provide personal counseling and undertake the spiritual and moral regeneration and physical rehabilitation of all persons who come within its sphere of influence regardless of race, creed or color.

Description

The Salvation Army is acclaimed worldwide for its broad humanitarian service and outreach. Its history as a religious and charitable organization dates back to 1865, when it was founded by William Booth to minister to the homeless in Victorian England. Booth's compassion for society's outcasts sparked a spiritual and social revolution. To this day, the organization still upholds the code and doctrine formalized by its founder.

Houston welcomed The Salvation Army in 1889 and has nurtured its growth and caring spirit for over 100 years. During that time, an expanding network of dedicated officers, staff and volunteers has embraced the sick and lonely, cared for the poor, mentored our youth and provided compassionate emergency response in times of disaster.

My mother is a single parent and have taught me that you don't have to get paid for everything you do for people and this is my way o showing her that I do listen sometime.
