The Palmetto Poison Center serves all 46 counties in South Carolina. In the year 2007 we received over 36,000 calls from the citizens of SC seeking advice on poison-related exposures and information requests for topics such as medication safety and plant toxicity. We are staffed by a medical director, managing director, public health educator, and pharmacists and nurses who are formally trained in toxicology and are specialists in providing poison information. Our calls range from accidental or intentional ingestions of poisonous substances to adverse drug reactions, envenomations, and occupational or biochemical exposures.
