Description

The following is a list of Great Explorations' Volunteer teams separated by department. The description provides an idea of when volunteers would most likely be working along with a very brief description of the teams' focus and six major duties associated with each. Teams consist of youth 7-25 years of age and adults over 25. These are long term positions and will require a specific level of commitment from each member. A minimum of 8 volunteer hours per week is required to participate in any one of the teams. Each team will be responsible for ensuring the scheduling needs of their departments are met. Team building training will be provided along with additional supports to create cohesive units dedicated to success. Gift Shop Team (4 youth / 3 adults) weekends/weekdays

Responsible for assisting in the operation of Great Explorations, The Children's Museum's Great Stuff Store. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Stocking shelves
  • Inventory
  • Merchandising
  • Guest relations
  • Tagging merchandise
  • Monitoring guests
Admissions Team (5 youth / 4 adults) weekends/weekdays

Responsible for providing all initial guest relations activities. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Booking birthdays
  • Hand stamping
  • Member ID checks
  • Guest relations
  • Clerical duties as assigned
  • Answering phones

Floor Team (12 youth / 5 adults) weekends/weekdays

Responsible for interacting with museum visitors on Gallery floor. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Visitor presentations
  • Science demonstrations
  • Kids workshops/playtime
  • Exhibits maintenance
  • Guests relations
  • Some animal husbandry

Special Events Team (5 youth / 2 adults) flexible weekends/weekdays, as needed. Responsible for the overall administration of special events activities. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Setup/breakdown of events
  • Create flyers and materials
  • Help create programming
  • Make crafts
  • Play games and activities
  • Guest relations

Education and Exhibit Development Team (4 youth / 2 adults) weekdays/some weekend Responsible for the educational components of Great Explorations, The Children's Museum. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Surveying visitors
  • Researching potential exhibits
  • Designing education demos
  • Data entry
  • Improving current exhibits
  • Secure resources
Exhibit Maintenance Team (5 youth / 4 adults) weekdays/some weekends

Responsible for maintaining all Great Ex exhibits on floor. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning exhibits
  • Researching components
  • Mechanical updates
  • Exhibit audits
  • Painting
  • Exhibit assembly
Research/Data Team (4 youth / 2 adults) weekdays/some weekends

Responsible for the research, data collection and evaluation of all Great Ex programs. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Engaging the community
  • Surveying visitors
  • Data entry
  • Evaluating programs
  • Data analysis
  • Conducting focus groups
Marketing Team (2 youth / 1 adult) weekdays/some weekends

Responsible for assisting the marketing team with all marketing related materials and promotions. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Publication design
  • Newsletter reporting
  • Photography
  • Writing
  • Administrative work
  • Data entry
Youth/Community Team (5 youth / 3 adults) weekdays/weekends

Responsible for engaging the communities Great Ex serves as well as assisting with the development of the Youth and volunteer programs. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting
  • Data entry
  • Administrative work
  • Instructing team building
  • Creating projects for participants
  • Organizing participant activities
Development Team (2 youth / 2 adults) weekdays

Responsible for assisting development department in raising support and creating partnerships for Great Ex. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting guest tours
  • Data entry
  • Funding research
  • Administrative work
  • Event organizing
  • Networking
ASEELI (AfterSchool Explorations and Early Learning Institute) Team (4 youth / 2 adults) weekday afternoons

Responsible for assisting with the successful implementation of Great Ex's child-based programs including the k-5 after school and early childhood programs. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Making crafts
  • Tutoring/mentoring
  • Data entry
  • Administrative work
  • Interacting with child participants
  • Preparing for daily instruction
