Mission Statement

The Jefferson County Public Schools ESL Program provides equitable and quality education for all children whose primary language is other than English and whose literacy skills prohibit them from meaningful participation in academic settings. Through effective English language instruction, all children will have the opportunity to acquire English proficiency and global competency in order to succeed in the 21st century.

Description

The ESL Office achieves its goals through a multi-pronged approach. The Intake Center welcomes newly-arrived non-English language background families and helps them transition into our local school system. The Instructional team supports the teachers in the 43 schools in the district with ESL programs. Additional services include parent outreach, adult education, after-school and summer ESL programs for youth, one-on-one tutoring, and a variety of other projects in schools and community centers.
