Mission Statement

Founded in July 2014, Real Food Real Stories (RFRS) gives voice to the rising food movement and cultivates an empathetic food system based on listening and action. We design powerful experiences where local changemakers in food are facilitated to connect with their purpose and share their story authentically with a curated audience over shared meals in order to shift culture and community toward healthy, sustainable food and farming practices.

Description

The summer of 2014, Pei-Ru Ko and a group of passionate friends hosted the first Real Food Real Stories gathering in a San Francisco home. The evening encapsulated many ingredients of what would become RFRS: a local food hero sharing his personal journey with authenticity, locally sourced stews and homemade cookies, and hosts facilitating guests to further connect with one another.

The power of connection to activate the sustainable food movement that emerged that evening made it clear we must share the experience with others. Since then, a team of collaborators has met over many shared meals to build this initiative and partner with local producers, food/agriculture advocacy groups, food businesses and engaged eaters.

We curate many forms of gatherings to facilitate storytelling and connection. Supperclubs gather industry professionals around live storytelling by a local food hero and a meal that connects to the story. Picnics are the public version. Digestifs are our follow-up gatherings, offering opportunities to deepen relationships and continue to learn about the stories.

We also produce a short film series capturing the powerful stories from RFRS gatherings to further inspire and connect us to our food and to the people behind the movement.
