Mission Statement

Washington Concert Opera exists to provide a secure home for rarely performed operatic masterpieces, to give established artists the opportunity to perform in debut roles as well as signature roles, and to introduce the exceptional talents of emerging artists.

Description

Washington Concert Opera (WCO) was founded in 1986 by conductor Stephen Crout as a fully professional company with the mission of bringing high quality, but seldom performed, operas in concert format to audiences in Washington, DC at affordable prices. In 2003, Maestro Antony Walker assumed the title of Artistic Director and Conductor and continues this mission. To date, WCO has produced 45 operas and has introduced hundreds of emerging and established artists to metropolitan Washington, DC audiences. WCO repeatedly receives rave reviews in The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and other media outlets and music blogs for its consistent level of artistic excellence.

WCO sees a future when it will be widely recognized as an opera producer of the highest quality, is appreciated throughout the nation for its unique offering, and makes a significant contribution to the field of opera as a catalyst for new and expanded audiences.
