Mission Statement

The Breakthrough Schools' mission is to provide sustainable, high-quality schools in Cleveland’s under-served neighborhoods, ensuring all students have access to an outstanding college preparatory education.

Description

Breakthrough Schools are a nonprofit network of high-performing, college preparatory public schools in Cleveland, authorized and endorsed by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. We currently serve more than 3,300 students in grades K-8 across 11 schools. We have no selection criteria and admission is free of charge to all families. Our goal is to open 19 schools by 2019, serving at least 6,000 children.

Now in our fifth year as a network, Breakthrough Schools are continuing to weave into the fabric of high-performing options for children and families in Cleveland. Through quality education, Breakthrough Schools are building a strong foundation for the future of our city.

Friends of Breakthrough Schools is the non-profit development, advocacy and volunteer management organization for the Breakthrough Schools. The Friends of Breakthrough Schools is responsible for closing the gap in public funding, as well as working with community, business, and political leaders to build city-wide support for high-quality public school options for all children in Cleveland.
