Mission Statement

Mission: To advocate for community gardens of all kinds, connect partners, provide education and share resources to sustain existing and help develop new community gardens. The CCGC works to create community gardens providing inter-generational and educational recreation; healthy, locally grown foods for Carlsbad families; connections with Carlsbad history; and increased appreciation of our local and natural environment.

Description

We are a small non-profit organization founded in 2011 by Carlsbad citizens to advocate for more community gardens in our city/region. We work with the City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation staff ensuring our gardens are maintained, while supporting our gardening communities and advocating for additional gardens.

We assist the long-standing Harold E. Smerdu Community Garden and were instrumental in the opening of Carlsbad's second and third community gardens, Calavera Schoolhouse Garden in May 2014 and Pine Avenue Garden in May 2018.

But our waiting list continues to be long, currently over 300; more gardens are needed! We outreach via a quarterly newsletter, social media and community events.
