Mission Statement

The mission of Girls in Technology is to support academic and community programs that engage school-age girls in technology and computer-related learning. This support can take many forms such as providing mentors and speakers, assisting with program and curriculum development, providing financial support, and collaborating with strategic partners to expose school-age girls to technology. We especially target underserved and disadvantaged communities.

Description

Women in Technology is a not for profit organization dedicated to offering women involved in all levels of the technology industry a wide range of professional development and networking opportunities. The organization serves as an advocate for and a representative of the interests of women in the technology industry, acts as a liaison with other similar organizations on women's issues, and plays an advocacy role for technology issues in the Greater Washington, D.C., region.

Girls In Technology (GIT) is an outreach committee within WIT that provides scholarships, mentoring, speakers and other types of support for programs that foster technology interest in elementary, middle, and high school girls. We especially target disadvantaged girls.

In 2004 - 2005, GIT had an exciting year that included continued support for traditional programs as well as development of new programs and partnerships. The committee has grown to over 20 members, who have been extraordinary in their enthusiasm and willingness to invest their time and energies to furthering GIT's mission.
