Mission Statement
Placing young people at the forefront of change and development.
Description
SPW is the global leader in engaging and supporting young people to address the urgent health, education and environmental issues that affect their lives, their families and the livelihoods of their local, national and global communities. We recruit and train young people ages 18-28 to serve as peer health educators. SPW Volunteer Peer Educators live and work full time in rural communities of India, Nepal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia for 6-12 months in partnership with local counterparts.
All SPW volunteers receive 3-6 weeks in-country training that covers language, non-formal education methods, cultural awareness, appropriate rural-technologies, and safe health practices that include sexual education, HIV/AIDS prevention, sanitation techniques and adolescent development. Through this work, SPW empowers local youth to lead healthy, productive lives.
