It's a great organization to volunteer with - the hours are pretty flexible and you get to talk to people all over the state. I'd definitely recommend it!

Tenants Together is the most rewarding volunteer experience I've ever had. As counsellors, we multiply the value of our legal staff. Five volunteer counsellors equals legal advice getting to five times as many people in need.
The office culture is friendly and empowering.. As a counsellor, you collect data from clients necessary to understand their rights and vulnerabilities.. You then put them on hold and share your notes w legal staff to figure out what questions still need to be asked to identify the best refferal and advice to give them. The more you do it, the more you understand what questions to ask, and the advice which will likely be given and can expidite the process.

Dedicated people working together in a organization that becomes more necessary by the day in California. At Tenants Together, you get the opportunity to help people who need guidance when they're going through extremely stressful situations, which is very rewarding.

In addition to learning valuable skills and knowledge you can later use for self-advocacy, being able to tenants who have nowhere else to turn is rewarding in and of itself. If you're looking to break out of academia for some real-world experience helping out your fellow Californians, Tenants Together is the place to do it.

I have been volunteering here for almost a year and hope to continue to do so! The people are great and you really feel like you make a big impact. Working as a hotline counselor has been particularly rewarding--it may seem like a challenge at first but you'll pick it up quickly and feel great about doing much-needed and unique work asserting our rights to a stable & healthy home.
