Programming events, activities, and educational opportunities combine into the vital role of the museum serving the region of the lower Rio Grande Valley and enhancing the quality of life through the visual arts.
Description
The museum has evolved from the Brownsville Art League that was founded in 1935 by nine women artists. Originally the BAL met at the Neale House, the oldest home in the city of Brownsville. In 2006, the new home of the Brownsville Museum of Art opened its doors. The Brownsville Museum of Fine Art is 17,000 square feet with three large galleries, a children's gallery and classroom, a gift store and eating area. The grounds are aligned with the Linear Park, a bicycle route that runs five miles from the Federal Building to the Palo Alto Battlefield. It is located in the hert of the Mitte Cultural District across E. 6th St. from the Gladys Porter Zoo. .
