Description

"The Fresh Start Project" is a community outreach program created by our youth department in 2006.The goal of this project is to solely support the disadvantaged children within Lackawanna County."The Fresh Start Project" was initiated to equip the youth in our area with the tools they need to make the grade all year long. Many of our area youth do not have the resources to purchase their own school supplies. We believe that all children deserve to start their first day of school well prepared. The school kits are distributed at a Back to School Block Party which consists of fun activities (an obstacle course, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, fingerprinting identification, low ropes course, etc.), carnival games (dunking machine, bottle toss, lollipop tree, etc.), Arts & Crafts (spin art, sand art, jewelry making, design your own items), entertainment (magician, puppetry, singers, bands, etc.), and area youth-serving agency information booths (health insurance, hazards of smoking, aids awareness, fire safety, stranger danger, tutoring access, childhood obesity, youth diabetes, etc.), food court (hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks, drinks). All kids eat free, all day, at this event.

The goal of this project is to exceed our previous distribution and serve 1,000 less fortunate children. We have partnered with SchoolKidz, Inc.'s program, "Kits for Kidz", to provide both organizations and individuals in the community with a great opportunity to provide low-income families with all new school supplies for the Fall.
