Mission Statement

Gold is dedicated to giving students the performance, work and life skills necessary to succeed in our modern world. Dedication, loyalty, and honesty are the virtues that the Corps promotes. Achievement through perseverance and teamwork are the qualities that define the Corps. Gold’s primary purpose is to enrich the educational, social, ethical and performing arts lives of young adults through the art of marching music, instruction, and performance.

Description

Gold Drum & Bugle Corps was founded in Hawthorne, CA in 2005 by Executive Director Donald Flaherty Ed.D. The group was formed to expose local kids and young adults to a positive youth activity. The corps relocated to Oceanside CA in 2010 in order to expand it’s service area to include the entire Southern CA region.

As a member of Drum Corps International, Gold provides progressive and highly developed instruction and mentoring from passionate, experienced, and professional instructors. Students often experience positive life-changing moments and receive skills invaluable in the real world. The Corps goal is to empower members and instill confidence, character, drive and passion in them while providing enjoyment to audiences worldwide through music performances.

According to recent studies, students who participate in music education programs like Gold, outscore their non-music peers in all academic subject areas. Additionally kids and young adults involved in music programs have lower drop out rates, exhibit higher self-esteem and have significantly lower discipline problems throughout their educational careers.

Studies also show that music ensembles like Gold provide invaluable learning experiences for participants. Gold helps students develop performance skills, self-discipline and the life skills associated with functioning as a contributing member of a highly motivated team.
