Mission Statement

The mission of Foundation for the Retarded is to:

Assure that The Center Serving Persons with Mental Retardation will have the necessary financial resources to meeting the needs of people it serves;

Provide the opportunity for all deserving and qualified individuals to participate in The Center's programs regardless of their ability to pay the full costs of services;

Improve public awareness of and support for person with mental retardation; and,

Establish and operate a LifeCare program to develop, maintain and monitor guardianship, advocacy, and trust services that meet the long-term needs of persons with mental retardation.

Description

The Foundation exists exclusively to raise funds for The Center Serving Persons with Mental Retardation. One of the ways this is accomplished is through special events which require volunteer power! Annual events include NovemberFest, a non-competitive MS150 sanctioned ride coupled with a Free Fun Family Festival. It is held at our satellite location, Willow River Farms, near Sealy, TX in November. The second is Annual Luncheon which features an inspirational speaker. And the third is Ice Cream Sunday held on a Sunday afternoon in April. It is held on the W.Dallas campus of The Center and is geared for families with children 2 - 10 years. Kids make Ice cream sundaes, of course, eat James Coney Island hot dogs and play for hours on inflatable "rides"!

All events benefit The Center.
