Description
We are a non-profit residential facility located in Melbourne, Florida, that serves as an alternative to prison for juvenile offenders ages 14-18. SCMI provides a cost-effective second chance for kids who would otherwise be sent to jail for their offenses.
At SCMI, we combine education, recreation, behavior modification and mental health services with a caring, family atmosphere to strive toward rehabilitation rather than incarceration. Education is our key to success, and our students advance at an average of 2.5 in grade levels over a six to nine month period. Our hands-on vocational programs give our kids the skills and experience to become self-sufficient. We participate in service projects in partnership with local civic organizations to give our kids the chance to build character and develop a sense of belonging.
At SCMI, positive behavior is encouraged and rewarded. Students can earn recognition points every hour in the areas of leadership, respect, appearance, participation, and supervision. Structure, consistency and positive role models make the difference. Our formula for success is proven by our 70% success rate, nearly double the national average among residential programs for juveniles.
