Mission Statement

SOME exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. We meet the immediate daily needs of the people we serve with food, clothing, and health care. We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.

Description

SOME has been serving the homeless and poor for 40 years. Today, we are the only interfaith organization in the District that offers as comprehensive and holistic approach to caring for the homeless and extremely poor residents of our city.

SOME is still best known for food, serving more than 1,000 meals a day, but we also provide programs that meet a full spectrum of needs, all the while giving a sense of dignity to everyone who comes through our doors every day.

SOME's integrated service model allows us to develop partnerships with the men and women we serve that keep them moving forward on a path out of poverty.

I would recommend this organization to friends and colleagues because when I needed a meal you were there for me. I was homeless and had little to no resources and when someone told me about this organization I came there and you helped me to get myself back together. You, CCNV and DC Central kitchen. I thought I would never get my life back but thanks to you all I'm working, I have my own place again and I want to give something back to those who I know sometimes all they need is a few helping hands and who knows where they'll go. Thanks again SOME!

I believ in a commongood career. Some's program is an agent of making a difference in people's lifes and an outreach that builds a strong community which is needed in this recession.I will need to partner with Some because I have a project that deals with food distribution and youth gardens.

I would like to vounteer for this program because I believe that this can help encourage teens in the community to be active where they live. I want to help my community and serve as a role, model for my generation. I believe this can also help me in the long run when i go to college or work because it can give me more job training skills.
