Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The primary purpose of Hillwood shall be to preserve its collections, structures and gardens in perpetuity, in a manner substantially representative of the manner of living of Marjorie Merriweather Post. As a non-profit museum, Hillwood's operations shall be directed towards providing professional care of its holdings, interpreting and exhibiting them, conducting and publishing ongoing research of its collections and offering attendant educational activities.
Hillwood and its collections are the sources that educate, entertain, and inspire audiences. The interpretive foci of the Museum shall be to encourage the interest and study primarily of imperial Russian and eighteenth-century European fine and decorative arts; Marjorie Merriweather Post as collector, philanthropist, and business woman; and Hillwood's gardens as exemplary of mid-twentieth century horticultural practice and garden design for the benefit of diverse audiences through the years ahead. We will achieve these goals by providing multiple access points to the collections.
Hillwood Museum and Gardens is one of America's premier estate museums, featuring the largest assemblage of imperial Russian fine and decorative arts outside Russia, and an extensive collection of eighteenth-century French works of art. These are beautifully displayed in a grand setting as they were used by Hillwood's founder, Marjorie Merriweather Post, heir of the Post cereal empire and one of America's first businesswomen. Encircled by woodlands in the heart of Washington, D.C., the twenty-five acre estate boasts pleasure gardens and important azalea and orchid collections.
