Hillwood’s mission is to delight and engage visitors with an experience inspired by the life of our founder Marjorie Merriweather Post and her passion for excellence, gracious hospitality, art, history and gardens. Advancing our mission requires a team effort and the talents of a diverse, highly engaged group of people. Marjorie Merriweather Post had extremely high standards for the design, appearance, and condition of her property and a signature style for making people feel welcome in her home. These are the benchmarks to which we adhere in all we do.
Hillwood Museum and Gardens is one of America's premier estate museums, featuring the largest assemblage of imperial Russian fine and decorative arts outside Russia, and an extensive collection of eighteenth-century French works of art. These are beautifully displayed in a grand setting as they were used by Hillwood's founder, Marjorie Merriweather Post, heir of the Post cereal empire and one of America's first businesswomen. Encircled by woodlands in the heart of Washington, D.C., the twenty-five acre estate boasts pleasure gardens and important azalea and orchid collections.
