Mission Statement

The RFS Mentoring Initiative is a program designed to engage Future Scholars during and outside of the academic year, serving academically ambitious, low income, first generation Newark students. By pairing our Future Scholars with a positive, adult role model from Rutgers University or the wider Newark community, we hope to foster a life-long relationship that will give Scholars the opportunity to reach their full potential both in and out of school. Mentors are asked for a two-year commitment to the program initially, with the hope of maintaining a bond with their mentee(s) for the duration of their five years at RFS and beyond.

Description

The goal of the Rutgers Future Scholars program is to increase the numbers of academically ambitious high school graduates who come from less-advantaged communities, inspire and prepare them meet the standards to be admitted to colleges and universities, and then provide tuition funding to those who are admitted and choose to attend Rutgers University. In short the Rutgers Future Scholars program offers Hope, Opportunity, and Tuition Scholarship.
