Mission Statement

Social Media Volunteers! Help us raise value and attention to the Foods from Brazil's biodiversity and prevent deforestation! Our "Sustainable Food Basket" Facebook Page needs posts! We have videos from the Food EXPO in Milan - where our project is competing - and need attractive content so Brazilians discover the nutritious qualities of the Caatinga agricultural products that are grown by 800 families of farmers in 15 communities in the semi-arid region of Bahia. Organic exquisite fruits and nuts need to become fashionable. Chefs, Celebs, and Doctors need to be invited to join with their support on this new project that ends poverty and stops deforestation. Adapta Sertao is a non-profit REDEH project supporting farmers in improving food security, reducing poverty and promoting sustainability in partnership with local, national and international organizations. Adapta Sertao has received the 2008 SEED Award for its community-lead approach to water efficient crop irrigation.

Description

REDEH (Human Development Network) is a non-profit civil organization in Brazil created to defend sustainable development, conservation and protection of the environment. Since 2001, REDEH´s initiatives has been on climate change consequences and adaptation. The project « Sustainable Standard Food Basket » advances Redeh’s objective as it makes visible and valuable the sustainable food products developped by Adapta Sertao that are ready for commercialization. By bringing to the public and Government attention the simple solution of substituting 13 industrialized products of the Standard Food Basket for nutritious sustainable products of the Caatinga the goals of Adapta Sertao and REDEH are closer to being met reducing poverty and deforestation.
