FOR-NY envisions a world in which recovery from addiction is both common & celebrated; a world in which the entire spectrum of effective prevention, treatment & recovery support services are available & accessible to all who may benefit from them. FOR-NY believes that everyone struggling with addiction to alcohol and drugs can recover & reclaim a meaningful life & role in society. While there are many paths to recovery, adequate resources & support are necessary for sustained recovery. To that end, FOR-NY is working to 1) ensure that addiction is addressed as a public health issue, rather than a crime, 2) eliminate the barriers often faced by those seeking help, 3) develop non-punitive, nonjudgmental recovery service models, 4) advocate for a system that engages and supports individuals working to reclaim a meaningful life, 5) mandate that recovering individuals and their families are included at all levels of budget and policy development in the system.
