Mission Statement

We will make Phoenix a vibrant place to live, work, and visit by preserving our natural resources through environmental stewardship and quality resource management to provide a healthy and safe community for future generations

Description

Public Works handles the proper collection and disposal of trash and recyclables for more than 350,000 households. The department also handles the maintenance of city-owned properties, such as City Hall and the Calvin C. Goode Building, as well as the purchase and maintenance of city-owned vehicles. In 2013, the department launched its waste diversion initiative, Reimagine Phoenix, with a citywide goal of diverting 40 percent of trash from the landfill by the year 2020. Public Works is committed to creating a sustainable Phoenix through positive resource management.
