MINNESOTA EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY INC

Description

MELA is a public charter school that opened in the fall of 2015 to serve K-5 urban children and their families. Currently we have enrolled 150 students K-2 and will grow to K-5 in 3 years. We are managed by Distinctive Schools, a non-profit based on Chicago that currently supports six campuses, MELA being the first in Minnesota. Of 150 students currently enrolled: 23% Hispanic 9% Asian 42% African-American 11% Caucasian 16% Multiracial/Other 75% of our students are on free and reduced lunch. We employ a blended learning model to allow us to create individualized learning plans for each student. The use of technology allows us to effectively implement that model. We have an extended day and extended year to ensure that we will have a year and a half leaning growth for one year of instruction.
