To improve the lives and health of children and to provide a more optimistic future for their families
- UK Children's Hospital became Kentucky Children's Hospital in 2005 to reinforce its mission of helping the children of Kentucky gain and maintain good health.
- The children's hospital was originally founded as a "hospital within a hospital" in 1997, although the University of Kentucky Medical Center had treated children since it opened.
- There are more than 70 pediatric specialists and more than 300 pediatric nurses working in 24 areas as well as respiratory therapists, dieticians, social workers and pharmacists, all of whom are dedicated to caring for children.
- Inpatient admissions each year usually number in the 6,200 range and are growing
o 3,100 non-ICU floor admissions
o 600 PICU admissions
o 900 NICU admissions
o 1,600 to newborn nursery
o 8 outpatient beds and 3 infusion chairs
o 12-bed pediatric intensive care unit
o 38 private acute rooms with sleeping and shower facilities for parents
