The mission of the Stockton Symphony is to engage, educate, and inspire the community through a commitment to excellence in its performances and programs. It is our vision to provide the premier orchestral experience for residents of the San Joaquin Valley; to enhance and enrich the lives of the residents of our community through life-long learning about music and the arts; and to provide the cultural leadership that results in the financial foundation to achieve our vision.
The first complete Stockton Symphony season opened in October 1926 under the baton of Maestro Manlio Silva.
In 1994, the Stockton Symphony Association's board of directors hired Maestro Peter Jaffe. During his tenure with the Symphony, Maestro Jaffe has dedicated particular efforts to education and outreach. The mission of our education and outreach efforts is to provide children in our community with access to artistic excellence through direct contact with and instruction from professional musicians, and exposure to high caliber live performances. To that end, the Symphony has partnered with school districts in Stockton, Lodi, Tracy and Manteca, as well as Stockton's Haggin Museum, enabling us to reach over 5,000 students this season.
Through innovation, collaboration, and community involvement, the Stockton Symphony is constantly endeavoring to work towards its mission to engage, educate and inspire the community through a commitment to excellence in performances and programs.
