Founded in 2013, CYS currently serves over 1600 students from more than 40 public, private, & parochial high schools throughout the Chicago area. Dedicated to teaching & learning Shakespeare through performance, CYS programs provide young adults with a deeper understanding of Shakespeare, of themselves, & their connections to others, while reinforcing 21st Century Skills for academic achievement. CYS serves our mission to promote student empowerment, scholarship, & community-building across diverse lines through three central programs: 1) The Chicago Youth Shakespeare Ensemble (CYSE) - our flagship performance company open to high school students throughout the Chicago area 2) Battle of the Bard (BOTB) In partnership with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, BOTB is a region-wide series of Shakespeare slam events open to high school teams throughout Chicagoland. 3) CYS in Schools - Shakespeare workshops & residency programs for students & their teachers during the school day
